Ms. Garcia has lived in her Second Ward home for nearly 20 years. Hurricane Harvey hit her house hard, and three years later, she had not been able to make the repairs to her roof and sheetrock to make her home safe and resilient. Her seven children and numerous grandchildren worried that it could be dangerous for her to continue living there.
Then she finally reached out to Rebuilding Together. Our East End Community Revitalization program is just what she needed.
Soon contractors replaced her leaking roof and provided foundation stabilization to her home. To help her recover from damage due to the hurricane, contractors also performed mold remediation, and installed new sheetrock and flooring, while Rebuilding Together staff provided an A/C-heater window unit, as well as ceiling fans, box fans, and an air purifier.
After the contractors finished their work, volunteers from Reliant came and secured the exterior of Ms. Garcia’s home. The volunteers went above and beyond, scraping and painting the fence and clearing the yard for Ms. Garcia, so she would once again be proud of her home.
