Celebrating black history month
On February 20, 2026, Rebuilding Together Houston will host our 4th annual Rising Together, generously sponsored by bp. This year marks the 100th year of the national celebration of Black History Month, and Rising Together honors that legacy by highlighting the importance of safe and healthy homes in preserving community, stability, and generational pride. Guests will enjoy a community lunch, music, and the opportunity to come together in service while volunteers complete a home repair project in Houston’s Windsor Village neighborhood.
This year’s Rising Together project supports homeowner Earnest Spencer, a Marine veteran and longtime resident who has lived in his home for 47 years, building a life rooted in community, family, and faith. Contractors have already completed critical repairs to help ensure the home is safe, healthy, and resilient, and volunteers will complete exterior improvements during the event. Preserving homes like the Spencer family’s helps preserve the stories, stability, and pride that define Houston’s communities.
Together, Rising Together reflects the heart of our work: honoring history, strengthening community, and ensuring every family has a safe and healthy place to call home.
safe housing is a human RIGHT
Modesto Jaramillo is a Houston veteran and longtime homeowner. He served his country, but when his home began to fail him, he could not afford the critical repairs needed to stay safe. A leaking roof. Unsafe conditions. Repairs far beyond what a fixed income could cover.
No one who has served their community should have to live in unsafe housing. Safe housing is not a luxury. It is a basic need.
Across Houston, seniors, veterans, and families are living in homes that need critical repairs. Rebuilding Together Houston provides these repairs at no cost, helping neighbors like Joseph remain safe, healthy, and rooted in the communities they love.
Together, we are rebuilding homes and strengthening Houston, one home at a time.
