What We Do
Community Revitalization
Collaboration – Together we are stronger
As a long time partner of the City of Houston, Rebuilding Together (RT) recognized the opportunity to align with the Complete Communities initiative to improve life in under-resourced communities.
In 2019, RT chose Second Ward, our home neighborhood, for a five year 100 homes project. Second Ward is one of the four original neighborhoods in Houston, and has a rich heritage of Hispanic art, culture and food.
The Community Revitalization program focuses on contractor work for roofs, plus pier and beam stabilization, and volunteer repair for the exterior of the home.
In 2021, the program was expanded to Magnolia Park-Manchester.
Our Work with Veterans
Almost 40 Years in the Making: U.S Military Veterans in Houston
The greater Houston Area is home to over 300,000 Veterans.
Since 1982, Rebuilding Together Houston has used our unique combination of licensed contractors and dedicated community volunteers to repair over 3,000 homes of Veterans.
25% of the homes we completed in 2018, 2019 and 2020 were those of Veterans and their families.
Professional contractors complete repairs to structural, roof, and electrical and plumbing systems.
Safety upgrades prevent falls and fires include grab bars, steps and handrails, smoke and CO detectors, fire extinguishers, and air filtration systems.
Disabled Veterans may receive extensive home renovations.
Wheelchair ramps are built as needed to improve homeowner mobility and independence.
Volunteers scrape, caulk, and paint exterior walls, repair siding and fascia, and secure doors and windows to seal the envelope.
Rebuilding Together is the Disaster Recovery Expert
In Natural Disasters the Poor are the Hardest Hit
Low-income homeowners are especially vulnerable to natural disasters because of inadequate housing, fragile health and lack of back-up resources in case of emergencies.
The neighbors RT serves are unable to repair their homes because they are not insured or underinsured.
RT is an acknowledged leader in recovery, using our deep connection to communities and our construction expertise to restore homes throughout Harris County.
Whenever possible, RT not only repairs the damage inflicted by the current disaster but also deferred maintenance.

Homeowner Impact Survey Results
From 2019 to 2021, Rebuilding Together partnered with an external evaluator to conduct impact measurement based on desired outcomes of our core practice model, Safe and Healthy Housing. These surveys were conducted across the United States and over 1,000 homes were assessed and 450 homeowners were interviewed, asking them about the changes they experienced since the repairs were made. Impact measurement touched on six domains: Community (inclusion and retention of housing stock), Safety, Physical Health, Mental Health, Economic Security, and Independence.
