For many years, The Home Depot Foundation has been a great partner of Rebuilding Together, donating to support our work, and bringing local employees to repair the homes of veterans.
On Veterans Day, November 11, 2021, more than 100 Home Depot Foundation volunteers repaired four homes of former US Service members. “The repairs to all four homes are part of Operation Surprise, an annual celebration of The Home Depot Foundation’s commitment to giving back,” said Thomas Magee, local Team Depot Leader.
One of these homeowners, Ms. Hammonds, was in the US Navy for four years, then the reserves for an additional four years. During her military service, she served as an assistant to the Chaplain, traveled to Alaska, and received an award as Sailor of the Year.
Ms. Hammonds is the original owner of her home in the Forestwood subdivision in northwest Harris County, where she has lived for 21 years. Her son lives with her. Rebuilding Together replaced her roof, installed a low-curb shower, repaired her old flooring, and replaced the siding of the home. Team Depot volunteers completed external repairs, to “seal the envelope” of the house, before finishing with a fresh coat of paint.
