East End Community Revitalization
Small Business Repair
Houston was one of nine local affiliates of Rebuilding Together to receive grants from the Republic Services Charitable Foundation for projects in 2021 to help revitalize locally owned small businesses that have been disrupted during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Republic Services is proud to partner with Rebuilding Together, which is doing critical revitalization work in neighborhoods across the country. Through our Committed to Serve initiative, we have been supporting our employees and customers through targeted economic stimulus. Today’s announcement of these revitalization projects brings that targeted support to local small businesses, which are the cornerstone our communities.”
Rebuilding Together Houston’s projects in 2021 included four East End businesses and organizations.
“Seeing these projects and hearing how helpful the repairs were for each of the businesses was amazing! You all are doing such wonderful work in our communities and I look forward to partnering with you all again in the future. ”
Mystic Lyon, Center for Centering: Among our repairs and improvements: a new wheelchair ramp to expand access to their art studio, a new air conditioner, and volunteer repairs and paint on the exterior, thanks to the Turner Construction intern crew.
Doña María Mexican Café: New flooring helped this popular restaurant to operate safely.
Joy Mission: Repairs made it safe to operate their client-choice community food pantry in Magnolia Park, and Gano Mission Center received floor repairs.
“Small businesses are an integral part of a thriving community. Many of these small businesses have experienced hardships and have had to close due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We are proud to partner with Republic Services to support the critical needs of small businesses across the country as they return to normal business operations.”
