Serving Veterans - Mr. Parks

Meet Mr. Parks, an 81-year-old US Army Veteran.

Mr. Parks retired from the military after serving for nine years. As part of the 101st Airborne Division, he became an expert at jumping from planes. He spent three years in Germany and did one tour in Vietnam.

Mr. and Mrs. Parks had lived in their Houston home for over 40 years when Hurricane Harvey struck, severely damaging their roof and ceiling.

For the four years since Harvey, Mr. and Mrs. Parks suffered a huge influx of water into their house every time it rained. The continuous leaking caused mold to grow everywhere in the house. According to Mrs. Parks, they were “breathing basically black mold” for four years. Even under such dire circumstances, Mr. and Mrs. Parks were unable to get help until their granddaughter called Rebuilding Together.

Thanks to the Texas Veterans Commission and generous donors like you, we were able to replace their entire roof, as well as professionally treat the mold in the house, all at no cost to the homeowners.

Mr. and Mrs. Parks were so grateful to have their lives back after dealing with these problems for years. Mrs. Parks shared: “We’re so proud, we’re so glad, and so happy that [Rebuilding Together] came to help us and put us back on the road again to living a life.” Now, Mr. and Mrs. Parks can safely spend this holiday season with their daughter, four grandchildren, and three great grandchildren in the comfort of their own home.

Like Mr. Parks, so many Veterans don’t even have a secure roof over their head and are living with dangerous conditions inside their own homes that they can’t afford to fix. These dangerous conditions, like leaky roofs, faulty electrical systems, and busted water heaters, are entirely preventable and can be fixed RIGHT NOW with your help.

To help make a Veteran’s home safe for the holidays and beyond, please consider making a tax-deductible gift to Rebuilding Together Houston.

Thank you so much for helping provide home repairs to our Veteran neighbors in need.

Rebuilding Together plans to serve 100 VETERANS and their families in 2022.

This year we will serve 70 Veterans and their families. Meet two more of the Veterans we proudly served.

Ms. Cade served in the US Air Force for 10 years and 3 years in the reserves. She was stationed in Germany, England, and Italy, working as an office administrator, in a Police squadron, and as a translator for Italian and Spanish.

Mr. Dyer is the third generation owner of his home in Cloverleaf. He is a 19-year decorated Veteran with the US Army, deployed in three combat tours during the Gulf War Era.
