Ms. Dalcour in Northeast Houston

Christine Holland, Rebuilding Together Houston CEO, with Ms. Dalcour

Ms. Dalcour has lived in her Northeast Houston home for 24 years, and now shares it with her daughter and granddaughter. In 2017, like thousands of Houstonians, Hurricane Harvey caused extensive damage to her home. Rebuilding Together spent months making repairs to the house to make it, once again, a safe and livable home.

We take pride in forming a strong relationship with our clients, so that when they need help, they know they can turn to us. This February’s winter storm came and Ms. Dalcour's was not spared as pipes burst in three different areas of her house. Water came gushing down from the ceiling of her garage where it got so deep that she had to raise the garage door to let the water out. Other flooded areas were her front and back porches.

The fire department shut off the water to her house, but Ms. Dalcour’s challenges continued. She contacted her insurance company to arrange repairs for all the damage, but went seven days without water service and no response from her insurer. Finally she turned to Rebuilding Together for help.

Before long, the repairs were complete and water service was back on. Rebuilding Together also replaced her broken air conditioner, and even helped Ms. Dalcour arrange an appointment for her COVID vaccine! All services were free to her, thanks to Rebuilding Together and our generous partners and donors.

It’s a reminder of how many of our neighbors in underserved communities struggle during catastrophes and emergencies, and why Rebuilding Together is committed to help them.
