Ms. Williams in Acres Home

Ms. Williams of Acres Home had heart surgery not long ago and has difficulty using even just a few stairs. Her sister hesitates to visit because she doesn’t do well on stairs either. On Martin Luther King Day, volunteer David McCalvin and his crew completed the first volunteer project of our 40th Anniversary year: building a wheelchair ramp for Ms. Williams and her family.

40 Ramps for 40 Years is our first of many special projects we’re planning for this year. Click here to read about the events we have planned for our 40th Anniversary year.

Mr. McCalvin has been leading volunteer crews for Rebuilding Together for 32 years and has lost count of the ramps he has built for our neighbors in need, calculating “probably more than 100.”

Jason Miles from KHOU CBS TV stopped by the ramp installation and included the work in his Martin Luther King coverage on the 5 pm news. Click the image to see his report.
