Hot Topics imageOct. 17-18th & 24th, 2015 – Sitting on his porch under a rotted piece of plywood roofing, a grinning Mr. Carter slowly and quietly states that getting his home repaired “would be a blessing.” Together for 34 years, Mr. and Mrs. Carter have lived in their home for 14 years after it was deeded to them through a local church’s assistance.

In this home, they watched their four children grow up and now help care for their eight grandchildren. Unfortunately, the home fell in disrepair more than five years ago after Mr. Carter became ill. The Carters knew they needed help, so they turned to Rebuilding Together Houston to repair their home.

ExxonMobil and Gilbane volunteersOver two weekends, Super Impact 17 sponsor Gilbane Building Company and volunteers from Exxon Mobil Corporation completed repairs on the Carter families’ home. Nearly a hundred volunteers came out to make the Carter’s house a home again. The Carter family helped too! Ms. Carter wants to become a carpenter herself one day! By the end of the project, the Carters were overwhelmed by everyone’s hard work and couldn’t say ‘thank you’ enough.
